M. Noorul Quader Foundation - A Brief Introduction

The M. Noorul Quader Foundation
was founded in July 2000 in memory of Mr. Quader himself. Apart from
being a Freedom Fighter during the Liberation War of 1971, his
contributions towards the industrial development of Bangladesh has been
highly significant in that he is recognised as being the pioneer of the
Ready Made Garment Industry of Bangladesh.
Mr. Quader also shared his
passion and appreciation of the different arts and culture of our
country. He was good friends with artists such as Quamrul Hassan and S.
M. Sultan, who are among those considered to be the Master Artists of
Bangladesh and later helped organise several art exhibitions for them.
Mr. Quader also commissioned several amateur and upcoming artists of the
late 70s and 80s in order to promote their works of art.
The birth of the Foundation has
been inspired by Mr. Quader’s love and vast knowledge of local
paintings. In the past four years, the Foundation has organised a
country wide annual competition for children aged 3 – 15 years. This
has been part of an on going effort to encourage children from all
backgrounds to recognise their hidden artistic talents and be in touch
with the strong progress of young generation artists in the
country.
The competitions were organised
by placing advertisements on the national broadsheets and also by
writing letters to as many schools as possible. A date was chosen and
the participating children came to the National Children’s Academy in
Dhaka. The children were all provided with the necessary art materials
and were then given a subject and a time limit within which they created
all their beautiful pieces of work. Those who were unable to attend
mailed their artwork to the Foundation. All the paintings were then
judged by two eminent artists of the country and prizes were distributed
at a later date and venue in a properly held ceremony. The Foundation
committee, apart from just presenting a first, second and third prize,
also gave out approximately seventy ‘Encouragement Prizes’, in order to
further encourage the children to continue developing their artistic
skills.
The paintings that have been given by the Foundation
for the ‘ART for Artists’ exhibition in St. Gallen, Switzerland, is a
selection of all the paintings that were collected over the past four
years. In the future, M Noorul Quader Foundation wishes to continue its
efforts to encourage the very talented but often less fortunate children
of Bangladesh to realise their talents and appreciate the national
culture of Bangladesh.
